With many weekly markets, bric a brac and brocantes in the surrounding areas and some beautiful towns and villages, there's plenty to see and do.
Kayaking, Canoeing and paddle boarding
Under 10 minutes drive from Les Champs you can hire Kayaks, canoes and paddle boards and bikes from Base Nautique de Mansle. This is also our closest town offering a range of amenities including large supermarkets, weekly markets and boulangeries.
Verteuil-Sur-Charente
The beautiful village of Verteuil-Sur-Charente with its Chateau on the river is only a 25 minute drive away. Sit and enjoy a drink and apple brioche overlooking the river and the chateau.
La Rochefoucauld
Only 25 minutes away is La Rochefoucauld with its large chateau and several other interesting monuments and some lovely walks through the surrounding countryside. The Chateau has regular events and you can visit the Chateau where you will be able to dress up in historical costumes! There are also some lovely little shops and restaurants in the town.
Angouleme, the capital of the Charente
Angoulême, the capital of the Charente, is about 30 minutes by car. The old town sits at the top of a hill and has a beautiful cathedral, shops, restaurants and an indoor market, as well as a great views over the valley below. Angouleme also hosts some popular festivals such as the famous Angouleme international comics festival in January and the circuits des ramparts in September.
Plan d'eau de Saint-Macoux
30 minutes drive form Les Champs De L'oume is a lovely little lake with a beach area where you can swim. There's lot's of shaded areas and picnic spots, as well as a restaurant, beach bar and a park for the kids.
Treetop climbing, paintball and outdoor laser games
A lovely wooded area with a variety of treetop climbing courses from ages 4 up. There's also a cafe for a drink or ice cream in the middle of the woods on decking built around the trees.
Nautilus indoor and outdoor swimming pool
A great place to visit with the family near to Angoulême. With indoor and outdoor pools, a wave machine, slides and lazy river as well as a cafe.
Baignade du Portal a Vars River beach and swimming
A natural swimming spot on the river Charente with a sandy beach. There's also a car park, picnic spots and a snack bar in high summer.
La Vallée des singes , monkey centre
About a 45 minute drive from Les Champs is the La Valée Des Singes. Apes, monkeys and limas living in natural habitats with walk through enclosures and children play areas.
Cognac
The town of Cognac, with it's distilleries and much more is a 50 minute drive. Cognac hosts many festivals throughout the year including the Cognac Blues Passion in early July.
